A new study has found that Melbourne, Australia is the No.1 food destination in the world! This city beat popular places in Europe and Asia, offering more than 3,500 restaurants with food from over 100 different cultures.
The study by UK-based Travelbag used data from social media and food platforms to find the best cities for food lovers. Melbourne came out on top, followed by Toronto, Dubai, and Sydney—cities known for their food variety.
Why Melbourne?
Melbourne’s food scene reflects its diverse population and rich history. The city has one of the oldest Chinatowns in the world, where you can find amazing dumplings and Chinese street food. It also has the largest Greek population outside of Greece, with famous places like Jim’s Greek Tavern and Stalactites offering delicious Greek meals.
Melbourne is also home to Vegemite, a famous Australian spread. Some shops even sell Vegemite ice cream! 🍦
In Melbourne, food isn’t just about taste—it tells a story of cultures, traditions, and creativity. Restaurants like Etta call their menu “Melburnian” because it changes with the seasons and isn’t tied to any single cuisine.
From Japanese markets in Collingwood to Ethiopian dishes in Thornbury, the city takes your taste buds around the world. Whether you’re enjoying brunch, sipping amazing coffee, or eating sushi on the street—every meal in Melbourne feels like a new adventure.
