After 20 years of delays, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has finally opened near the Pyramids of Giza. Currently in its trial phase, visitors can explore 12 galleries showcasing 15,000 artifacts, including Ramses II’s colossal statue, ancient writing boards, and ornate sarcophaguses.
Spread over 50 hectares, GEM will be the largest archaeological museum in the world, housing 100,000 artifacts. Designed with pyramid-inspired architecture, the museum spans Egypt’s 3,000-year history, divided into themes like religion, kingship, and society.
A major highlight will be King Tutankhamun’s treasures, with all 5,000 artifacts from his tomb displayed together for the first time. The official full opening date is yet to be announced, but this landmark is already a journey into the wonders of ancient Egypt.
