Travel is all about moments that bring happiness — from arriving in a new place to enjoying a sunny beach day. And now, a new study has revealed the cities that make travelers the happiest.

At the top of the list is Lisbon, Portugal, ranked the happiest destination in the world. The city shines with more than 2,800 hours of sunshine each year, plenty of green spaces, healthy restaurants, and amazing walkability. With its compact size and scenic viewpoints, Lisbon makes exploring on foot a joy.

The study, done by BookRetreats, measured “feel-good factors” like sunshine, green spaces, low pollution, walkability, and healthy food options.

Coming in second is Helsinki, Finland, known for its low noise and light pollution. Finland itself is already famous for being the happiest country in the world.

In third place is Orlando, Florida, home to Disney and Universal. But beyond theme parks, Orlando is also full of green spaces — over 2,000 square feet of parkland per person across 148 parks and gardens. Visitors can kayak, hike, or simply relax in nature.

Athens, Greece, and Edinburgh, Scotland complete the top five, praised for their rich culture, history, and walkable streets.

Travel experts say people are now choosing destinations not just for attractions, but for how those places make them feel — balanced, happy, and at peace.
