Summer may be fun, but winter brings its own kind of magic — snowflakes, cozy fires, and steaming cups of cocoa. And according to several travel experts, the best place to experience a true winter wonderland is Finland.

Chris Brunning, co-founder of Untold Story Travel, said that Finnish Lapland feels peaceful and pure, covered in snow for months. He described it as a place filled with “magical winter nights,” friendly locals, and clean air.

Michelle Jensen, editor at Travel HerStory, added that Lapland is inside the Arctic Circle, which means you can easily see the Northern Lights. Visitors can also enjoy fun winter activities like reindeer sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and even relax in the world’s only snow sauna at the Arctic Snow Hotel.

For families, the highlight is Santa’s Village, where kids can meet Santa, visit his post office, and even dine in a snow restaurant. Some travel companies even offer private sleigh rides through snowy forests that lead to a surprise meeting with Santa himself!

Jozef Verbruggen from Untamed Travelling said that Lapland’s snow-covered landscapes and frozen lakes make it a peaceful paradise. He described walking in the snow as “a sound you never forget.”

Carlos Nasillo, CEO of Riderly, explained that Lapland is special because winter isn’t just a season there — it’s a way of life. Locals have mastered how to live and thrive in extreme cold, unlike other winter destinations that shut down.

Travel advisor Claire Riley suggested combining a trip to Helsinki with a visit to Lapland for the perfect mix of city life and nature. You can enjoy Helsinki’s great food and design before heading north for glass igloo stays and outdoor adventures like skiing, snowshoeing, and watching the Aurora Borealis.
