When thinking about retiring abroad, good healthcare, safety, and long life are important. According to the 2025 Global Retirement Index by Natixis, Luxembourg is the best country for health for retirees, keeping its top spot for the second year in a row.

The ranking looked at three things: life expectancy, health spending per person, and out-of-pocket medical costs. Luxembourg scored highest in insured health spending and saw an increase in life expectancy. Overall, it ranked 9th among 44 countries, with Norway taking the top overall spot.

Luxembourg is safe, with very low road deaths and almost no accidental poisoning. Its homicide rate has been improving too. The country is also culturally rich, with castles, museums, and great food. It has three official languages: Luxembourgish, French, and German, and many people also speak English.

Other top countries for healthy retirement are Ireland (2nd), Sweden (3rd), Norway (4th), and Switzerland (5th). The USA ranked 25th, showing improvement from last year.
