Spain has been ranked the best country for expat quality of life for the third year in a row, according to a new study by InterNations, a global expat community.
The survey found that 84% of expats in Spain are happy with their lives, compared to 67% globally. Expats love Spain for its great weather, rich culture, lively nightlife, and sports opportunities. The country also scores high for affordable healthcare and efficient public transport.
The United Arab Emirates came in second, thanks to safety, healthcare, political stability, and diverse dining options. Panama took third place, praised for leisure, sports, and cultural activities, marking its first time in the top five after being ranked 16th last year.
The study ranked countries based on five factors: safety and security, healthcare, leisure options, travel and transport, and environment and climate. Many European countries also made it to the top 10, including Austria, Luxembourg, Czechia, and Portugal.
On the other hand, Kuwait ranked last, particularly in environmental quality, climate, and leisure options, with most expats relocating there for work reasons.
For those planning to move abroad, it’s important to check visa rules, register with the U.S. State Department’s STEP program, and connect with local expat communities before relocating. Popular destinations include Portugal, Mexico, New Zealand, and Canada.
