When people think of Washington wine, they often name Walla Walla or Yakima. But just 30 minutes from Seattle is Woodinville, a small town that has become the heart of Washington’s wine scene.
Woodinville doesn’t grow many grapes itself—most come from Eastern Washington—but it’s where more than 100 tasting rooms gather in one spot. That means wine lovers can sample Chardonnay, Merlot, and many more varieties without long road trips.
One of the biggest highlights is Chateau Ste. Michelle, the state’s oldest winery, famous for its French-style estate and summer concerts.
Woodinville is divided into four wine districts:
-
Warehouse District: artisan winemakers and production tours
-
West Valley District: wineries surrounded by forest
-
Downtown District: easy-to-walk tastings
-
Hollywood District: home to big names like DeLille Cellars
It’s not just wine either—there are breweries, distilleries, and plenty of amazing food. From fancy farm-to-table restaurants like The Herbfarm and Barking Frog to casual eats like tacos and sourdough pizza, there’s something for everyone.
If you need a break, you can walk or bike the scenic Sammamish River Trail or hike nearby Cascade trails. For a night’s stay, options include the cozy Willows Lodge or the quirky McMenamins Anderson School, a converted junior high school.
