A new report has revealed the safest cities in the U.S. for LGBTQ+ travelers. According to the 2025 Misterb&b Queer Safety Index, Chicago is the safest city, thanks to its strong LGBTQ+ rights, low hate crime rates, and supportive laws.

Chicago has many LGBTQ+ friendly neighborhoods like Northalsted, Andersonville, and Uptown. It’s also known as the home of the first official gay neighborhood in the U.S.

Other Safe Cities in the Top 10 Include:

  • Seattle
  • San Francisco
  • Portland
  • San Diego
  • Honolulu
  • Denver
  • Albuquerque
  • Las Vegas
  • Palm Springs

The list was created using data on hate crimes, legal protections, and travel bookings from Misterb&b, a travel site for LGBTQ+ travelers.

On a global level, Canada, Malta, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain are considered the safest countries for LGBTQ+ travelers.

In the U.S., the safest states are New York, California, and Colorado.

Reports like these help travelers choose safe and welcoming destinations by using public data on crime, safety, and local rights.
