“Stay seated if the lion charges,” whispered my safari guide, Jonah Seboko. Just feet away, a massive lion feasted on a buffalo. We were in Botswana’s Mababe Depression, a wildlife paradise where nature reigns supreme.

Once a seasonal grassland, the Mababe Depression transformed into a lush wetland in 2007, attracting elephants, hippos, and thousands of buffalo—making it prime hunting ground for lions. Wilderness Mokete, a private safari camp, protects these mega herds by turning an old hunting zone into a conservation haven.

Staying at Wilderness Mokete is an experience like no other. With just nine solar-powered tents, private plunge pools, and open-roofed rooms, guests sleep under the stars to the sounds of roaring lions and grazing elephants.

The adventure didn’t stop there. A helicopter ride over the Okavango Delta revealed breathtaking landscapes, elephant herds, and crystal-clear lagoons. At Tubu Tree Camp, I explored the waters in a traditional mokoro canoe, gliding past hippos and vibrant water lilies.

Sunsets painted the delta in hues of pink and gold, a perfect ending to a thrilling adventure. Botswana’s wild beauty is raw, unpredictable, and unforgettable.
