Looking to live a long and healthy life? Washington, D.C. is the No.1 longevity hotspot in the U.S., according to a new study!
A report by BestPlaces and Medtronic ranked the top U.S. cities where people have the best chance of living longer, healthier lives. The study looked at factors like physical activity, social connections, healthcare, and lifestyle habits—and D.C. came out on top!
Why Washington, D.C. Is the Best for Longevity
Active Lifestyle: People here exercise more!
Healthy Habits: Low smoking and drinking rates.
Great Healthcare: Plenty of hospitals and medical facilities.
Strong Social Connections: High community engagement.
D.C. did lose some points for lower plant-based diet adoption, but overall, it still ranked No.1 for health and wellness.
Who Else Made the List?
San Francisco Bay Area – High physical activity & great food but lacks strong social bonds.
Bridgeport, Connecticut – Balanced lifestyle & community support.
Boston & Seattle – Strong healthcare & active residents.
Key Findings:
Women are more likely to reach 150! Research shows only 7% of U.S. supercentenarians (people over 110) are men.
Genetics + Environment Matter! Family history helps, but good food, exercise, and social connections play a huge role in longevity.
So, if you’re dreaming of a long and healthy life, maybe it’s time to move to D.C.!
