As the crisp fall air sets in, it’s the perfect time to step outside and enjoy nature — especially if you live in Vermont. The New England state has just been named the most outdoorsy destination in the United States.
The outdoor adventure website Kühl analyzed Google search data from August 2024 to August 2025 for 14 outdoor activities like hiking, camping, kayaking, skiing, fishing, and swimming. After adjusting for population, Vermont came out on top with 8,515 searches per 100,000 residents.
The study revealed that Vermonters are especially interested in skiing, camping, and kayaking — activities that perfectly match the state’s scenic mountains, lakes, and trails. Vermont is also famous for its colorful fall foliage and becomes a top ski destination during winter.
Coming in second was Hawaii, known for its tropical adventures, with 7,796 searches per 100,000 residents. Colorado followed in third place, with 7,272 searches, thanks to its mountains, ski resorts, and endless hiking spots.
Across the country, camping ranked as the most popular outdoor activity, followed closely by kayaking, hiking, fishing, and skiing — showing that Americans still love exploring the great outdoors.
