Moving to a beach town might feel like a dream, but some towns are more affordable and practical than you think. Chincoteague, Virginia, has been named the most livable beach town in the U.S., thanks to its low home prices (average $641,751), low crime, low unemployment, and a short average commute of 21 minutes.
The town is also charming. It serves as a gateway to Assateague Island, home to the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and its famous wild horses. Residents and visitors can enjoy fishing, kayaking, bird watching, and endless beaches.
Corey Gilgan, owner of Oregon Generators (which shared the study), said, “Chincoteague’s appeal goes beyond wild ponies and beaches. The community has reliable infrastructure, perfect for coastal living.”
Other top livable beach towns include:
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – Median home $636,840
Cannon Beach, Oregon – $1,337,817, praised for great weather
