Not every vacation has to be expensive or once-in-a-lifetime. You don’t always need a luxury safari or a European tour to enjoy a break. Travel can be budget-friendly — you just need to pick the right place.
A recent report by GOBankingRates has named Concord, North Carolina, as the most affordable travel destination in the U.S. This charming city sits just 20 miles from Charlotte and is home to the famous Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s a great choice for travelers flying into Charlotte Airport (CLT) and looking for a fun and relaxing weekend without spending too much.
Concord has a cozy historic downtown filled with cafes, shops, event spaces, and even a cool arcade bar. It’s perfect for a chilled vacation. The total cost for a trip for two adults came to around $940, making it the only city in the study with a total cost under $1,000.
How the price was calculated:
-
Average airfare: $197
 -
Average hotel (3 nights): $215
 -
Meals: $462
 -
Drinks: $66

The study compared popular U.S. travel spots by checking hotel prices, food and drink costs, and average airfare. It focused on a 3-night trip in August.
Other affordable cities included Phoenix (Arizona), Macon (Georgia), and El Centro (California) — all costing under $1,300 for two people. Texas also stood out with nine cities on the list, while surprisingly, no Florida cities made the cut.
So if you’re searching for a peaceful getaway that doesn’t drain your bank account, Concord is a great choice for a simple and budget-friendly vacation.
