If you dream of a quieter life with lower costs, southern Indiana has a special offer: move to one of its rural communities, and you could get $5,000.

The “Choose Southern Indiana” program, started in 2021 by Radius Indiana, is designed to bring more people to small towns across eight counties, including Jasper in Dubois County. So far, more than 100 families have already moved.

How the Program Works

  • Remote workers earning $50,000 or more can get $5,000.

  • Those earning $40,000–$49,999 can receive $3,000.

  • People who accept local jobs may also qualify for the $5,000 bonus.

The money is split into two payments: half when you move, and half after you complete one year. To qualify, you must live outside Indiana now and promise to stay at least two years.

Why People Are Moving

With about 17,000 residents, Jasper is one of the most popular towns. Known as the “Wood Capital of the World”, it has many furniture businesses and a growing community. Families are attracted by safe neighborhoods, friendly people, and space for kids to play.

Newcomer Sam Brodrick moved with his family from Tennessee in 2024. At first, he thought the offer was too good to be true, but he now enjoys the safe and welcoming lifestyle.

Small-Town Charm and Activities

Jasper offers more than just financial help. The town has a revitalized downtown, monthly community events, and an Art Loop with 13 murals and statues. The program also hosts activities like kayaking, hiking in the Hoosier National Forest, and Amish bread-making to help newcomers feel at home.

The results speak for themselves—out of over 100 people who have relocated, only six have left. With safety, outdoor fun, and a warm community, southern Indiana is proving to be a hidden gem.
