Airports are stepping up their game with new lounges, dining, and fun amenities, but one airport in the Midwest is leading the way. Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) has been ranked the best “mega” airport in North America for passenger satisfaction, according to the 2025 J.D. Power survey. This is the second year in a row it has taken the top spot.

Experts say the secret is Midwestern hospitality and a focus on bringing local flavor to the travel experience. MSP now has over 100 restaurants, shops, and services, including a food hall, a PGA virtual golf range, and even a spa. The airport also offers a light rail link to downtown Minneapolis and the famous Mall of America.

Other top airports in the survey included Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) in second place and Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) in third. For “large” airports, John Wayne Airport (SNA) in California ranked first, while Indianapolis International (IND) was named the best “medium” airport.

At the bottom of the list was Newark Liberty (EWR), which is currently under heavy renovation with new terminals and train systems being built.

The survey was based on 30,000 traveler responses, focusing on facilities, ease of travel, and overall experience.
