Death Valley National Park will close Emigrant Canyon Road starting January 6, 2025, until early March for repairs due to damage caused by Hurricane Hilary in 2023. The storm flooded the area, damaging infrastructure and leaving deep drop-offs. This closure means no access to areas like the Wildrose Campground, Wildrose Peak Trail, and Telescope Peak Trail.

The repairs are aimed at protecting the road from future flash floods, which have become more frequent due to climate change. The National Park Service is working on reinforcing the road with concrete barriers and rock-filled structures.

Winter is a good time to visit Death Valley, but visitors should plan ahead as this major road will be closed for a couple of months.
