India’s top restaurant, Avartana from ITC Grand Chola, Chennai, is going global! Ranked #1 in the Condé Nast Traveller Top Restaurant Awards 2024, the team is headed to France this April for two special dinners in Champagne and Bordeaux—two of the most famous wine regions in the world.
Led by chefs Nikhil Nagpal and Satheeshwaran, and F&B manager Ganesh Kuppusami, Avartana will serve a seven-course tasting menu paired with fine French wines and bubbly champagne. The goal? To show how South Indian spices, like curry leaves, coconut, and tamarind, blend perfectly with French wine culture.
🗓️ First stop: April 10 in Champagne
At the Domaine du Chalet, a stunning estate from 1860, guests will enjoy traditional Avartana dishes with small-batch champagne.
🗓️ Next stop: April 15 in Bordeaux
At Château Haut-Brion, one of France’s oldest wine estates, Avartana’s flavors will shine alongside world-class Bordeaux wines. This event will happen during the En Primeur, where experts taste new vintage wines.
🍽️ What’s on the menu?
- Lamb Congee with aubergine and yogurt
- Asparagus & Coconut Stew with turmeric + idiyappam
- Spiced Pork Belly with chayote
- Fennel Panna Cotta with caramel “bird nest”
- Two surprise dishes
- And yes—their iconic Triple-Distilled Rasam served in a French press will welcome guests on arrival!
Wine expert Sanjay Menon teamed up with Avartana to pick perfect wine pairings for each dish.
This fusion of Indian flavors and French finesse is a proud moment for Indian cuisine on the global stage.
