For the first time in 100 years, people can now swim in the Seine River in Paris! In July 2024, the city opened three safe swimming spots for everyone to enjoy during the summer. This change came after years of hard work and a huge clean-up project that cost over €1.4 billion.
Mayor Anne Hidalgo even swam in the river herself to prove it was clean and safe before the 2024 Olympics. Olympic swimmers raced here during the Games, and now the public can enjoy it too.

Everyone must wear a yellow float for visibility and safety.
If it rains heavily, swimming might be stopped because of water pollution.
Why People Love It:
It’s free!
Amazing views while you swim.
Facilities like lifeguards, lockers, and showers.
A great way to cool off during hot summer days.
More than 50,000 people have already enjoyed swimming in the Seine since early July 2024—and no health problems have been reported. If this goes well, Paris plans to allow swimming more often starting in 2026.
So if you’re in Paris this summer, take a refreshing dip in the Seine—it’s a new way to enjoy the city!
