Happiness may mean different things to different people, but living in the right place can make a big difference. A new study has revealed which U.S. state offers the happiest lifestyle—and it comes with beautiful beaches too.

In September 2025, WalletHub released its annual report ranking the happiest states in the United States. The study evaluated all 50 states using key factors like emotional health, physical well-being, work environment, income, safety, and community life.

WalletHub found that Hawaii residents report the highest life satisfaction and one of the lowest depression rates in the country. Nearly 85% of adults say they are in good or excellent health, and the state also has the longest life expectancy in the nation.

Strong economic conditions add to the happiness factor. Hawaii has a low unemployment rate and a high number of households earning over $75,000 per year, helping residents enjoy a balanced and stress-free lifestyle.

Other states that ranked high for happiness include Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, Connecticut, Utah, California, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Idaho.

Experts say that happiness isn’t just about where you live—it’s also about relationships. Studies show that strong social connections, family support, and meaningful interactions play a major role in overall happiness and life satisfaction.
