The North Rim of the Grand Canyon, damaged by a big wildfire in July 2025, is now partially reopening. This side of the park is less crowded but very scenic, and visitors can enjoy some of its best viewpoints again.

What’s Open

  • Roads: Highway 67 up to W1 Road and Cape Royal Road are open.

  • Viewpoints: Point Imperial (the highest point) and Cape Royal (great for sunrise, sunset, and Colorado River views).

  • Camping: Primitive camping is available at Fire Point and Swamp Ridge with a backcountry permit.

Important Notes

  • Overnight stays in other areas remain closed.

  • The North Rim is remote: no power, water, fuel, cell service, or visitor services—bring your own supplies.

  • Access is open until Nov. 30 or the first major snowfall.

  • Recovery work and fallen trees from the fire may be visible.

Visitors who want standard accommodation can stay nearby at places like Kaibab Lodge.
