More and more Americans are leaving big cities. According to a report by Goldman Sachs, about 650,000 people moved out of major U.S. cities in 2022, and 550,000 more in 2023. So, where are they going? A new study by GOBankingRates has the answer.
Woodbridge, Virginia, just 30 minutes from Washington, D.C., is now the fastest-growing suburb in the U.S. The town’s population jumped from 4,400 in 2018 to over 43,000 in 2023—that’s an 887% increase!
To live comfortably in Woodbridge, a household income of over $120,000 is recommended. That covers costs like groceries, transport, entertainment, and a mortgage. The average price of a single-family home here is now more than $500,000.
Texas towns also did well in the ranking, with six suburbs in the top 10:
- Fulshear (#2)
- Celina (#3)
- Princeton (#4)
- Prosper
- Fate
- Anna
Other fast-growing suburbs include:
- Queen Creek, Arizona (#5)
- Fort Mill, South Carolina
- Groveland, Florida (#10)
The study looked at suburbs with populations between 20,000 and 100,000 in 2023. It ranked them based on growth, income, cost of living, and how livable they are.
