In the mountains of Taiwan, Alishan is a beautiful, misty place known for five amazing sights—cloud seas, sunrises, sunsets, a sacred tree, and the famous Alishan Forest Railway. This special train ride begins near sea level and climbs to nearly 13,000 feet, passing through four distinct climate zones—from tropical to cold.

The train goes through forests filled with cedar and oak trees. Built in 1912 during Japan’s rule, the railway was first used to move wood. It also helped local Indigenous people travel in the mountains.

The ride is full of twists, tunnels, and bridges—77 tunnels and 50 bridges to be exact! One part, the Dulishan Spiral, even holds a world record.

Now a five-hour journey, the train is a favorite among locals. It’s more than a scenic trip—it’s full of history and memories.
