Several countries, including Denmark, Finland, Germany, and the United Kingdom, have updated their travel advisories for citizens planning to visit the United States. These changes are in response to a recent U.S. executive order that recognizes only two genders—male and female—on official documents, eliminating the “X” gender marker previously available for non-binary individuals.
Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises travelers whose passports display an “X” gender marker or who have undergone gender changes to contact the U.S. embassy before traveling.
Germany’s foreign office emphasizes that holding a valid ESTA or U.S. visa does not guarantee entry, as final decisions rest with U.S. border officials. They recommend carrying proof of return travel and note that there is no legal recourse if entry is denied.
These advisories reflect growing international concern over the U.S.’s recent policy changes affecting transgender and non-binary travelers.
