Ski season is here, and fresh snow is already falling at major resorts across the U.S. If you’re planning a winter trip, there’s one resort that stands out above the rest for powder snow.

Inghams Ski, a ski holiday company, released a list of the world’s top powder snow destinations in early November. Powder snow means soft, light, freshly fallen snow—skiers love it because it feels like you’re floating as you glide over it.

On this list, Park City, Utah ranked No. 18 in the world and was the only ski resort in the U.S. to make the top 20.

Park City is famous for its amazing snow. The mountain gets nearly 300 inches of snowfall each winter. Utah’s high elevation and dry air keep the powder light, fluffy, and perfect for skiing. The area also benefits from lake-effect snow from the Great Salt Lake, which creates even more soft snow.

Park City offers 7,300 acres of skiable terrain, with slopes for beginners and experts. You can even ski directly into the town for après-ski fun.

How They Ranked Powder Snow

Inghams Ski worked with meteorologist Jim N. R. Dale from the British Weather Services. They studied 120+ ski areas across 13 countries. They looked at things like:

  • Snowfall amount

  • Temperature

  • Humidity

  • Wind

  • Elevation

Each resort received a score out of 100.

The world’s best powder snow destination went to Westendorf, Austria, known for its beautiful, uncrowded setting and great slopes for all ages. It was followed by Ortisei, Italy in second place and Gressoney, Italy in third.
