It’s rare to walk into a new restaurant and start planning your next visit before finishing your first meal. But that’s exactly what happens at Baan PhadThai in Bengaluru. This place doesn’t just serve delicious food – it also offers a warm, no-fuss vibe and pocket-friendly prices.

A Taste of Bangkok

Founded in Bangkok in 2016 by Frederic Meyer, Baan PhadThai became famous for its 18-ingredient secret sauce used in its phad Thai. In 2018, it was listed in the Michelin Bib Gourmand guide for offering great food at fair prices – a spot it held for six years. The brand now has branches across Asia and even Paris. Bengaluru is the newest addition.

The Space

Located on Indiranagar’s busy 12th Main Road, the restaurant has a simple look – plain walls, a few Thai posters, and 30 seats filled with happy guests. The bar is still waiting on a wine license, but that hasn’t stopped the crowd.

The Food

The menu is short, but every item is tempting. We picked the Som Tum Thai (raw papaya salad), Laab (minced pork salad), and Tom Yum Kaichiau (Thai omelette). We asked for low spice, but the salad still brought the heat – in the best way possible. The crab omelette with a tom yum reduction was a surprising hit. The pork Laab was spot on, with a perfect mix of spices, lime, mint, and roasted rice powder.

Of course, we had to try the Phad Thai, served with chicken and that famous sauce. It was a little sweet for us, but once we added some fish sauce from the condiment box, it was perfect. They even have a vegan “fish” sauce that’s salty and full of mushroom flavor.

We couldn’t resist the Phad Phak Boong (morning glory with garlic and rice) and the Gaeng Massaman curry with lamb. Both were comforting and full of flavor. The Massaman, especially, reminded us of classic versions from the past.

Dessert & Drinks

They only offer two desserts – both with smoked coconut ice cream. We loved the version with crispy rice, peanuts, and coconut flakes. There are a few non-alcoholic drinks like Thai milk tea and passionfruit soda. Wine cocktails are coming soon once they get their license.

The Team

The Bengaluru outlet is run by Rajesh Rebala, Vasu Pasham, and Sid Mewara – two ex-Swiggy folks and one food industry pro. They smartly adapted the brand for India without changing what made it special: the food.
