September is here, and that means spooky season has begun! If you’re searching for a fun and spooky place to celebrate Halloween, Macon, Georgia, is the spot.

Every October, Macon hosts the Annual Witches Float on the Ocmulgee River. Hundreds of witches, warlocks, and wizards swap broomsticks for paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes, floating down the river in costume. This year, the float takes place on October 5, 2025, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The event isn’t just about fun — it’s also for a good cause. Proceeds help Macon Periods Easier, a nonprofit that provides menstrual products and raises awareness about period poverty, and also support the ABC Breathe Scholarship Fund for kids’ yoga and breathwork classes.

But the float is only the beginning. Macon is packed with haunted fun:

  • Explore Victorian mansions that are said to be filled with ghosts.

  • Join the Ghost Hunt Weekends crew at spooky spots like the Grand Opera House and Douglass Theatre.

  • Take creepy walking tours like Haunts & History on the Hill or Spirits in October at Riverside Cemetery.

  • Dance in the Thriller Parade, where hundreds of zombies perform Michael Jackson’s iconic moves.
