Tensions between Iran, Israel, and the US have caused major problems for air travel across the Middle East. After US strikes on Iranian targets, many airlines changed their routes, canceled flights, or delayed them. Several countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, even closed their airspace for safety—but it reopened on June 24.

What Happened in Qatar?

Qatar closed its airspace on June 23 as a safety measure, following fears of an Iranian response. Qatar Airways stopped several routes, and embassies warned people to stay indoors. Luckily, the skies reopened the next morning. Hamad International Airport in Doha added more staff to help with flight delays and backlogs.

Airlines Changing Plans

Due to safety risks:

  • British Airways stopped flying to Dubai and Qatar.

  • United Airlines avoided Iran and Iraq airspace.

  • American Airlines paused its Philadelphia–Doha route.

  • Air Canada canceled flights to Dubai and Riyadh and stopped service until further notice.

  • Singapore Airlines and Scoot rerouted flights to avoid danger zones and even canceled one flight to Dubai on June 22.

Middle East Airlines Affected

Big airlines like Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways had to change their routes, causing more delays. SalamAir and Oman Air canceled flights to Iran, Iraq, and Jordan. Qatar Airways also stopped flying to Tehran, Baghdad, and Damascus.

Travel Warnings Issued

  • India advised against non-essential travel to Iran and Israel.

  • Air India canceled and rerouted many long-haul flights.

  • IndiGo warned of possible delays.

  • Dubai Airport is open but ready for emergencies.

  • Kuwait and Bahrain advised people to stay indoors.

Travelers: Stay Alert

Many Gulf flights are still delayed, canceled, or rerouted. Airlines are now using longer routes over Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the Caspian Sea. Travelers should stay updated, check flight status often, and be flexible with their plans.
