The Jordan Pond Path in Acadia National Park is one of the easiest and most beautiful hikes in Maine. It is known for its calm, mirror-like lake, mountain views, and peaceful forest.
The trail is a 3.3-mile loop that starts near the famous Jordan Pond House, where visitors enjoy tea and popovers.
Most of the path is flat, but you will walk over some rocks and wooden boardwalks, which make the hike fun without being hard.
From the start, you can see the North and South Bubble mountains, which look like picture-perfect postcards.
Parts of the trail are smooth gravel, while other parts go right along the edge of the lake. You will also see granite rocks, clear water, and lots of birds and small animals—especially in the morning. The lake is so still that it often reflects the sky like a mirror.
The best time to visit is late spring to mid-fall.
-
Spring brings cool air and fresh green leaves.
-
Summer has perfect hiking weather.
-
Fall is the most colorful, with bright red, orange, and gold leaves from late September to mid-October.
You can visit in winter, but snow and ice make the trail slippery. Swimming or boating is not allowed because Jordan Pond is a water supply.
Visitors can also explore more trails in Acadia or visit the town of Bar Harbor nearby. The town has a beautiful 1.5-mile Shore Path along the ocean, boat and whale-watching tours, gardens, shops, and restaurants.
Popular places to stay include The Bayview Hotel with oceanfront rooms and Balance Rock Inn, a historic hotel with amazing bay views.
