Eros Cinema has recently reopened as a 305-seat IMAX theatre, and along with it, several new places have launched. One of the newest additions is Hearth, a cozy and homely restaurant on the first floor of the iconic Art Deco building. The cinema is smaller now, but its beautiful exterior has been restored.

A Warm and Comfortable Space

Hearth aims to feel like home — simple, warm, and comforting. The menu focuses on dishes cooked with fire and bold flavours. The drinks also match this vibe, offering classic cocktails and unique house specials.

Chefs Mehul Sabharwal and Dhriti Mankame, who worked together at Ekaa, created a menu that mixes many cuisines. You’ll find everything from duck confit salad to haleem pizza.

The restaurant curves around the front of the building, in the space where old film reels were once stored. It even has two balconies where film stars used to wave to fans during premieres. Now, they give you great views of Churchgate and the busy streets below.

Inside, retro touches like a record player, old speakers, and wooden window frames preserve the cinema’s history. The napkins are hand-embroidered by the chefs’ mothers and grandmother, with cute Mumbai-inspired designs like tiffins, cricket bats, traffic lights, and curry leaves.

The Team Behind It

Chefs Sabharwal and Mankame are experienced and have worked at restaurants like Burnt Ends (Singapore), Masque, and Masala Library. Their dream of opening a restaurant came true when restaurateur Ankit Chona (Hocco Ice Creams, 1944 The Hocco Kitchen) partnered with them.

The Food

The menu has a mix of small and big plates:

  • Brie and cherry tomato tart

  • Pork and rosemary toast

  • Duck confit salad with soy chilli maple dressing

  • Short rib mac and cheese with bone marrow

  • Chicken skewers

  • Pork belly and bacon rice

Vegetarian options include pumpkin and focaccia, zucchini labneh, and a variety of pizzas like pesto puttanesca and quattro formagi. There’s also a special pizza inspired by Lucknow flavours with chicken haleem.

Desserts include a modern fruit custard and warm s’mores with a soft chocolate center.

Price for two: ₹4,000 (without alcohol), ₹6,000 (with drinks)

The Drinks

The in-house cocktail menu features fun and creative drinks with a touch of old Mumbai:

  • Bambai Pallonji (gin/pisco)

  • Kali Pelli (dark rum and coconut jaggery)

  • BA-BR-BU (tequila, brown butter, focaccia rum, and bacon)

  • Bell Me Up (tequila + charred bell peppers)

  • Pink Panther (beetroot-infused tequila + sparkling wine)

There is also a strong wine list curated by Ankit Chona.
