Travelers often worry about safety when visiting the Caribbean, but some islands are extremely safe. According to a report by travel platform Going, Saint Barthélemy (St. Barts) is the safest island in the region. It is known for “exceptional security” and very low crime rates.

St. Barts is popular with luxury travelers for its high-end resorts, nightlife, and shopping. The U.S. State Department classifies St. Barts under its lowest Level 1 travel warning, advising visitors to “exercise normal precautions.”

Going highlighted that the island has French-standard law enforcement, excellent healthcare, and tourism infrastructure focused on visitor safety. The report called St. Barts “ultra-exclusive.”

Other Safe Caribbean Islands

  • Anguilla: Known for strong governance, a tourism-focused economy, and reliable emergency services. Recently ranked the safest Caribbean country in the Global Peace Index.

  • Aruba: Safe due to its location outside the hurricane belt, well-trained police, and good healthcare.

Other islands considered safe include the Cayman Islands, Barbados, Turks and Caicos, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, and Grenada. Both Anguilla and Aruba also have Level 1 travel warnings from the U.S. State Department.

Safety Tips

Going’s report used metrics like crime rates, healthcare quality, emergency services, and political stability to determine safety.

However, some islands are not safe. Haiti is at Level 4, with risks of crime, kidnapping, and unrest. Trinidad and Tobago has a Level 3 warning, with Americans advised to “reconsider travel.”

For travelers looking for relaxation and adventure, islands like St. Barts, Anguilla, and Aruba offer peace of mind and safety.
