Christmas in New York City is beautiful, but it also gets very crowded. A new study found that the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center is the most overcrowded Christmas attraction in the world.

More than 41% of people who visited said the rink was too crowded. They complained about long lines, very little space to skate, and too many spectators blocking the edges of the rink. Rockefeller Center as a whole also ranked fourth on the list of the world’s most crowded Christmas spots.

The study was based on English reviews from November, December, and January.

Even with the crowds, Rockefeller Center is still a classic New York holiday destination, and many visitors enjoy the busy festive feel. But if you want quieter places to enjoy Christmas activities, New York City has plenty of other options.

Less Crowded Ice Skating Options

  • Wollman Rink, Central Park: Tickets start at $16 on off-peak days and skate rentals cost $12.

  • Bryant Park Rink: Free entry, with skate rentals starting at around $18. You can also explore the holiday market after skating.

  • Brookfield Place Rink (Downtown): Offers 60-minute sessions starting at $15, and rentals start at $5.
