When you think of winter holidays, you might imagine New York’s busy streets or Colorado’s snowy mountains. But there’s a new winter star quietly rising in the Midwest — Toledo, Ohio. Thanks to a massive $200 million riverfront transformation, the city has become one of the best winter destinations in the U.S. And the biggest attraction is something truly unique: The Ribbon, a beautiful 1,000-foot-long ice skating trail that curves along the Maumee River.

This scenic trail connects to a 5,000-square-foot skating pond, giving visitors a mix of fun, space, and magical winter vibes. What makes it even better are the heated cabanas, each with fire pits, cozy seating, and delicious treats like hot cocoa and pizza.

The Ribbon is open daily from mid-November to mid-March, making it perfect for holiday trips, weekend getaways, and winter vacations.

The skating trail is just one part of the exciting Glass City Metropark. This new park is filled with fun activities:

  • Three play areas for all ages

  • A 41-foot adventure tower with climbing nets and slides

  • A night-lit sledding hill for after-dark excitement

Plus, the views are stunning. From the park, you can see the Toledo skyline, the river, and three iconic bridges. Everything looks magical, especially in winter.

The Metropark is part of the bigger Glass City Riverwalk Project, which will soon offer 300 acres of riverfront greenspace, a five-mile mixed-use trail, and easy access to six Toledo neighborhoods.
