Winter is here, and people across the U.S. are getting ready for cozy getaways and ski trips. From snowy slopes to warm lodges, there are plenty of options to enjoy the season—without needing a passport!

A new report by Wander has revealed that Colorado is the best state in the U.S. for a luxury winter vacation. The study looked at factors like ski resort quality, ticket prices, snowfall, private jet access, and fun off-mountain activities such as snowshoeing, stargazing, and cross-country skiing.

Colorado topped the list with a score of 9.12 out of 10, beating California, which came in second with 7.46. With world-class skiing, breathtaking mountain views, fine dining, and luxurious resorts, Colorado offers something for everyone who loves a stylish winter escape.

The state has 41 ski resorts, 500 snowshoeing trails, and 17 Dark Sky Places—perfect for skiing and stargazing. Travel experts also picked Colorado as their favorite U.S. ski destination this year.

Some of the top luxury spots include:

Telluride – Known for its beautiful San Juan Mountains and the award-winning Madeline Hotel & Residences. You can even enjoy gourmet meals at Alpino Vino, the highest-elevation restaurant in North America.

Breckenridge – The first Dark Sky ski resort in Colorado. Ski by day, and stargaze at night. It’s also famous for its charming old-town feel and fun nightlife.

Vail – Offers cozy ski-in, ski-out lodges, luxury spas, and heated cobblestone streets that feel like a fairytale village.

Aspen – The most glamorous of all, home to famous resorts like The Little Nell and Hotel Jerome, both known for top-notch service, fine dining, and history. Aspen’s Snowmass Ski Resort is also the most expensive ski resort in the U.S.
