American travelers are ready for new adventures this winter! Airbnb’s latest travel report for the 2025/2026 season shows that people in the U.S. are skipping the usual spots and choosing lesser-known, cozy destinations for their vacations. Many families are leading this trend, with 80% preferring peaceful suburban or rural getaways.

For ski lovers, small towns are becoming the new favorite. Dover, Vermont, home to Mount Snow, is attracting visitors with its convenient access and charming winter atmosphere. Campton, New Hampshire, is also popular for those who want both snowy fun and quiet relaxation. In Pennsylvania, Champion near Seven Springs Ski Resort is winning hearts for its family-friendly winter magic.

Out West, Brighton, Utah, and McCall, Idaho, are trending too. Brighton offers great ski slopes near Salt Lake City, while McCall is known for its snowy landscapes and fun winter carnival.

For travelers chasing sunshine, southern towns are stealing the show. Lafayette, Louisiana, attracts visitors with its amazing Cajun food and lively music scene. Close by, St. Tammany Parish offers a unique blend of culture and warmth, just an hour from New Orleans.

In Florida, Anna Maria Island is becoming a favorite with its peaceful beaches and relaxed vibe. Another hidden gem, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, combines history with Gulf Coast sunshine.

The only West Coast destination on Airbnb’s list is Hermosa Beach, California, known for its surf culture and sunny weather—perfect for escaping the winter blues.

Airbnb’s report also shows that families are planning longer stays this season, with many trips lasting a week or more. Older travelers, especially those 60 and above, are heading to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and sandy beaches.
