The world may feel unstable with wars, political divides, and falling trust in governments. But a new Gallup 2025 Global Safety Report shows that people today feel safer than they have in 20 years.

The report is based on 145,000 interviews in 144 countries and looks at how safe people feel in daily life. Instead of focusing only on global issues, it studies local factors like trust in police, community strength, and infrastructure.

Top 10 Safest Countries to Walk Alone at Night

  1. Singapore – 98%

  2. Tajikistan – 95%

  3. China – 94%

  4. Oman – 94%

  5. Saudi Arabia – 93%

  6. Hong Kong – 91%

  7. Kuwait – 91%

  8. Norway – 91%

  9. Bahrain – 90%

  10. United Arab Emirates – 90%

Why these countries are safe:

  • In Singapore, China, and Gulf nations, safety is linked to strong law enforcement, infrastructure, and visible authority.

  • In Norway, safety comes from community trust and social responsibility, not strict enforcement.

Global picture:

  • Countries above 90% safety include East Asia, Gulf nations, and parts of Northern Europe.

  • India scores 72%, showing progress but still facing urban and social challenges.

  • Latin America and Africa rank lower: Brazil (51%), Nigeria (53%), and South Africa (33%) report the weakest feelings of safety.

The study shows that safety is not just about crime rates, but about the systems—legal, social, or institutional—that make people feel secure in their daily lives.
