Nostalgia is powerful—it reminds us of good times, favorite places, and unforgettable food. South Mumbai (SoBo) is seeing the return of some beloved spots that once defined the city’s culture. From iconic restaurants to legendary nightclubs, these places are back with the same charm and a little upgrade.
Paradise is Back—With Its Famous Chicken Rolls!
Paradise Restaurant, once a favorite café at Colaba Causeway, shut down in 2018. But it’s now back as Colaba’s Paradise, thanks to Rohit Gupta, who grew up loving the food there. It’s a delivery and takeaway kitchen that serves some of the original Parsi and Continental dishes.
The chicken roll with special mayo is still a star. They sell over 50 rolls a day, and the mayo is made fresh—2 kilos daily! Old favorites like mutton cutlet with gravy, soup scotch broth, and kid gosht are back too.
Even better? Gupta brought back Chef Kundan Singh, who worked at the original Paradise for 35 years, to keep the flavors just like before.
Khyber Turns 65—Still Iconic, Still Delicious
Khyber in Kala Ghoda is a North Indian restaurant that’s been around for almost 70 years. It survived a major fire in 1985 and reopened with artwork by MF Husain and Anjolie Ela Menon. One burnt wall from the fire still remains, now decorated beautifully as part of the restaurant’s charm.
Famous celebrities like Brad Pitt, Amitabh Bachchan, and Shakira have all dined here. The place looks the same with a few upgrades—brighter lights, refreshed art, and comfy seating.
To celebrate its 65th anniversary, Khyber is serving a special menu of 65 all-time favorite dishes like Paneer Khorma, Chicken Badami, Tandoori Raan, and Paan Kulfi.
Polly’s 2.0 – The Retro Club is Back!
Remember Polly Esther’s, the retro-themed club in Colaba that closed in 2014? It’s back with a new name—Polly Esther’s Retro Bar—and the same fun vibes!
Owner Rohit Narang (aka Timmy) has recreated the iconic space with cool updates like an LED dance floor, vintage posters, glitter panels, and neon signs that flash “love” and “peace.” DJ Akhtar’s team is still playing classic retro hits—from English to Hindi, Latin to new disco.
It’s the same Polly’s energy but with a modern touch. There’s also an elevated lounge, a vintage-style bar, and delicious new bar snacks from different cuisines.
As one regular said, “We had our best parties at Polly’s—and it’s great to have it back!”
