After spending 12 busy years in Mumbai’s publishing world, Ayesha Madon and her ex-husband Jamshed moved to Goa to live a calmer, simpler life. They packed their bags and left the city without a plan. Their first project was J&A’s, a small Italian restaurant by the Baga River. But their real dream came true in 2006, when they bought a forested hillside in Parra village, surrounded by jamun, mango, and gulmohar trees.

In 2012, they opened Capella Forest Retreat and Homestay, offering guests a peaceful place to experience the slower, quieter side of Goa.

About the Homestay

Capella is just 30 minutes from Manohar International Airport. The house is built on a hill and surrounded by thick green forest. Guests often spot birds, monkeys, and even frogs and civet cats after rain! The home has wide verandas, open spaces, and a lovely infinity pool that overlooks the forest.

Inside, the house is full of antique furniture, old books, and personal touches. Ayesha restored old windows and doors from Mumbai and filled the home with things from her past.

Capella has four rooms named after flowers:

  • Jacaranda & Frangipani (for solo travelers or couples)

  • Magnolia & Heliconia (larger rooms with balconies, great for families)

Prices start from ₹7,500 to ₹8,500 per night, including breakfast. Capella doesn’t list on big travel websites. Bookings are made directly for a more personal experience.

The Hosts

Ayesha lives at Capella and does everything — from bookings to guiding guests. She’s supported by a small team:

  • Geeta, who cooks breakfast and makes great ginger tea

  • Chand and Seema, who take care of housekeeping

There are also pets — Simba and Muffin (cats) and Elsa (a gentle dog). Ayesha’s son Zal, a scuba diver, helps out when he can.

Food

Capella serves only breakfast, which includes Indian favourites like dosa, poha, aloo paratha, and their special Parsi-style scrambled eggs (Akuri). Guests can also use the kitchen or explore nearby cafés, especially in Assagao village, known for its great food.

Things to Do at Capella

  • Relax by the pool or on the verandah with a book

  • Join a spa session offered on-site

  • Go for birdwatching walks or village tours

  • Try watersports, cruises, or hiking trips

  • Explore Old Goa, Fontainhas, or the Aguada Fort

  • Learn Goan cooking from a local expert

Capella isn’t just a homestay — it’s a peaceful escape into nature and village life, filled with warmth, stories, and soul.
