Thrill lovers in Maryland will have to say goodbye to their favorite rides soon. Six Flags Entertainment has announced that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland, will close on November 2 after 25 years of fun.
The 500-acre park is being shut down as part of the company’s plan to focus on better-performing locations. The land will be sold and redeveloped in the future.
Six Flags is the largest amusement park operator in the U.S., running 42 parks across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The Maryland park has been a family favorite, with rides for all ages, including little kids.
About 70 full-time workers will be affected, but the company says they will get severance and other support. CEO Richard Zimmerman said it was a tough decision and thanked the workers for creating great memories over the years.
As for the rides, nothing has been finalized yet—they might be moved to other parks or sold to other operators.
If you already bought 2025 season passes or tickets, don’t worry—they’ll still be valid at other Six Flags parks during the 2025 season.
For now, fans can enjoy the park for one last season before it closes.
