For the first time ever, National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions will start European river cruises in 2026. These new trips will take travelers along the beautiful Rhine River with stops in cities like Amsterdam, Cologne, and Strasbourg.
Even though Lindblad has done river cruises before—like on the Nile—this is the first time they are bringing their style of deep, expert-led travel to Europe. The company’s CEO, Natalya Leahy, said that guests want more than just sightseeing. “They want real, meaningful experiences,” she explained. “And we bring in historians, photographers, and experts to make that happen.”
Two Itineraries to Choose From:
-
Belgium and Netherlands Route
Stops include Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Ghent, Antwerp, and Brussels. Guests can enjoy walking tours, food demos, and private museum visits. -
Germany to Switzerland Route
Runs from Cologne to Basel through the stunning Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stops include Cologne, Frankfurt, and Strasbourg.
These cruises will happen on a brand-new ship called Connect, built in partnership with Transcend Cruises. It has 60 cabins, room for 120 guests, and offers a cozy, personal experience. Guests can enjoy a main restaurant, rooftop grill, lounges, a yoga studio, spa, gym, and even an outdoor cinema. Bikes will also be available for exploring on land.
The cruises will begin in April 2026, with 8 sailings planned for the first season. Lindblad hopes to expand even more in the future—maybe even with trips during the famous European Christmas markets!
