Going on vacation is all about exploring new places. And the best way to do that is by walking! But not every city is made for easy walking. Some places are too hilly or busy, making it tough.
A new report by Compare the Market AU has found the best city for walking — and it’s Munich, Germany!
How They Chose the Best City
The team looked at many things like how much it rains, how many walking trails there are, safety scores, public transport costs, biking paths, and car-free areas. After studying all the data, Munich came out on top.
Munich has hundreds of miles of biking trails and 86% of people live close to a car-free zone. Even though the public transport there is expensive, the city is very safe, which is super important for walking. Also, 85% of people live close to healthcare and schools.
Other Top Walkable Cities
-
Milan, Italy, came second because 80% of people live close to healthcare and schools.
-
Warsaw, Poland, was third thanks to its small size and cheap public transport.
Most of the top walkable cities are in Europe, with Helsinki and Paris in the top five.
Tokyo made it to sixth place, breaking Europe’s streak.
Madrid, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam completed the top 10.
Outside of Europe, Sydney ranked 11th. New York City was the highest U.S. city on the list but came in at No. 34.
