Summer is almost here, and many people are applying for Schengen visas to visit Europe. Because of this, getting a visa appointment might take some time. But if you plan smartly, you can still enjoy a fun holiday — eating gelato in Italy or cruising along the Seine in France.
How Long Does a Schengen Visa Take?
Once you attend your appointment, it usually takes about 15 to 45 days to get your visa. However, the tough part is getting an appointment during the busy travel season.
When we checked VFS Global on April 21, here’s what we found:
-
France is taking about 2-3 weeks to process visas from cities like Chandigarh, Cochin, and Puducherry.
-
Switzerland has the earliest slot on April 29 (Mumbai).
-
Germany‘s earliest slot is on May 21 (Gurgaon and Chennai).
-
Italy has no available slots right now in Delhi, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad. In Ahmedabad, the earliest is on May 16.
(Tip: If you already had a Schengen visa before and traveled, you can get a quicker appointment.)
Some good news:
-
France, Hungary, Norway, and Finland have earlier slots.
France and Finland have available appointments by April 25 (Chennai and Hyderabad). -
Spain has slots in May and usually takes about seven working days to process visas.
-
Sweden is offering next-day appointments in all Indian cities!
New Schengen Visa Rules for Indians
Even though waiting times are longer, it’s worth it!
Under the new ‘cascade’ visa rule, Indian travelers who have used two Schengen visas properly in the past three years can now get a multi-entry visa valid for two years.
