Japan is expected to be packed with tourists in summer 2025—especially with the Osaka Expo around the corner. So if you’re dreaming of cherry blossoms, matcha lattes, or a Mt. Fuji adventure, now’s the time to plan ahead.
1. Mt. Fuji Hiking Fees Have Increased
Planning to hike Mt. Fuji? From 2025, all four trails now have a hiking fee of ¥4,000 (around Rs2,339). Only 4,000 hikers are allowed each day, and climbing is closed from 2pm to 3am. If you want to stay overnight, book a mountain hut in advance. Don’t forget to register online to pay the fee and get your permit.
2. Get a Free Domestic Flight with JAL
Japan Airlines is offering free domestic flights again! If you book an international ticket with JAL, you can fly within Japan for free. But if you plan to take more than one domestic flight, the Japan Explorer Pass offers cheaper rates on over 30 routes.
3. Kanda Matsuri 2025 – Expect Big Crowds
If you’re in Tokyo between 8–15 May, don’t miss the Kanda Matsuri festival. It’s one of Japan’s biggest festivals, held every two years. You’ll see colourful parades, traditional outfits, and street food everywhere. It’s a great cultural experience—but be ready for big crowds!
4. Book Shinkansen Seats in Advance
Planning to ride the famous Nozomi Shinkansen? All seats will be reservation-only during busy times—25 April to 6 May and 8 to 17 August.
5. Don’t Miss the Osaka Expo 2025
From 13 April to 13 October 2025, Osaka will host Expo 2025 with the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” It’ll be held in Yumeshima and run daily from 9am to 10pm. Tickets start from ¥4,000 (Rs2,339) and kids under 4 enter for free.
