Getting into United Club lounges just got harder and more expensive. United Airlines has raised prices and changed its lounge access rules to improve the premium experience for travelers.
New Lounge Membership Prices
- Individual Membership: Costs $750 or 94,000 miles and now only applies to one person (no guests).
- All Access Membership: Costs $1,400 or 175,000 miles, allowing two guests and access to Star Alliance and partner lounges.
- Credit Card Holders: Travelers with a United Club or United Club Business credit card can bring one guest and dependents under 18.
What Changed?
- No More Guests for Individual Memberships: Previously, members could bring a guest, but that’s no longer allowed.
- Limited Access to Partner Lounges: Standard members will no longer have access to Star Alliance lounges in airports like Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Paris, and Buenos Aires.
When Do These Changes Start?
- New Sign-Ups: The changes apply immediately for new members.
- Existing Members: Current benefits will continue until their membership expires—then they must choose to renew under the new rules.
Reactions from Travelers
Some flyers are upset, calling the price increase unfair. One traveler said on Reddit, “It’s more than double the price for the same thing.”
However, others support the changes, saying United Clubs have been too crowded, and limiting guest access may help fix that.
What’s Happening with Other Airlines?
- Delta Airlines also limited Sky Club access, allowing credit card holders only a set number of visits per year. To get unlimited access, travelers must spend $75,000 per year on their co-branded Amex card.
Final Thoughts
Airline lounges are becoming more exclusive and expensive as airlines try to improve the experience. These new rules may help reduce overcrowding, but they also make it harder for many travelers to access these lounges.
