Booking a city vacation comes with many perks, like exploring cultural spots, enjoying top-notch dining, and maybe catching a theater show. But one of the best parts is waking up to a stunning city skyline from your hotel window. While all skylines are beautiful, some are truly breathtaking.
A study by gaming website Slingo set out to find the most iconic skylines worldwide. They looked at popular cities, counting Instagram hashtags for each skyline and the number of tall skyscrapers over 150, 200, and 300 meters. They also used the golden ratio (1.618) to check how visually appealing each skyline is.
The study found that Mumbai, India, has the most iconic skyline in Asia, scoring 7.84 out of 10. Mumbai’s skyline is famous for its mix of Gothic, Victorian, modern, and art deco architecture. It also has famous landmarks like the Taj Mahal Palace, the High Court of Bombay, and the Gateway of India. With over 32,000 Instagram mentions and many skyscrapers over 150 meters tall, Mumbai took the top spot in Asia.
Globally, Mumbai ranked behind three other cities. Chicago came in third, known for its iconic buildings like the Willis Tower and over 375,000 Instagram posts. Dubai took second place, celebrated for its futuristic skyscrapers.
The number one spot went to New York City. With a score of 9.68 out of 10, NYC has 318 buildings over 150 meters tall and iconic landmarks like the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. With 661,000 Instagram posts, New York’s skyline is a favorite worldwide.
