1. Shimla: Escape the Heat

If you want a cool and scenic getaway, Shimla is one of the most popular budget friendly honeymoon destinations in India. I remember arriving there and immediately being enchanted by the fresh mountain air, the pine-scented breeze, and the panoramic views of snow-capped peaks. For couples looking to escape the city heat and spend quality time together, Shimla offers the perfect blend of romance, adventure, and affordability.

Why Shimla?

Hill stations of Shimla’s beauty are in its beautiful hills, the clean valleys, and snow-covered mountains. The town has that timeless colonial feel, with colonial architecture, winding roads, and cozy cafes down quiet lanes. Visiting in winter? The snow adds an element of magic,  from strolling hand-in-hand on the glistening Mall Road to taking a sleigh ride in Kufri, it’s like something out of a storybook.

To enjoy a honeymoon trip as it is supposed to be, you should consider 4-5 days for this little paradise. That way you will have some much-needed peaceful time to spend together, while being able to explore the main attractions and do activities.

How to Reach:

  • By Road: Shimla is approximately 375 km from Delhi, and the drive, via Kalka, is a picturesque one through hilly, serpentine roads and cloud-kissed villages.
  • By Train: From Kalka, the world-famous toy train is also available, which runs on a heritage journey and makes you feel going back in time.
  • By Air: The nearest airport is the Shimla Airport (Jubbarhatti), which is connected with flights from Delhi and Chandigarh.

Budget Friendly Stays:

Throughout my stay, I discovered several cheap hotels for honeymooners:

  • Crystal Palace:  timeless classiness with homely rooms
  • Hotel Basant:  great location and best value for money
  • Hotel Deepwoods: amidst greenery and tranquility

Either way, each of these possibilities provides clean rooms, solid service, and a romantic vibe,  at a cost that won’t break your bank.

Cost:

  • Shimla is very reasonable for a honeymoon: approx. ₹5,500 per couple per day (land package), including stays, sightseeing, and basic meals. Of course, costs vary depending on your choice of hotel and activities.

What makes Shimla stand out as a budget friendly honeymoon destination in India is the perfect mix of romance, adventure, and natural beauty. Whether you’re exploring colonial architecture, skiing in the snow, or simply cuddling in a cozy café, every moment feels intimate and memorable.

2. Udaipur: City of Lakes

For couples who love heritage and royal vibes, Udaipur is one of the best budget friendly honeymoon destinations in India.

Why Udaipur?

Udaipur’s charm is unmatched. The city is studded with pristine lakes, grand palaces, and quaint havelis, making it a haven for pairs who want both romance and culture together on their trip. I enjoyed walking along the ghats of Lake Pichola and watching the sun set behind palaces, quiet boat rides that seemed like private moments frozen in time. Honestly, 3–4 days is perfect,  you get to see the city, chill during the day, and then have intimate evenings with your other half.

Udaipur is not just about seeing, it’s also about experiencing. From sunset boat rides on Lake Pichola to romantic dinners on rooftop terraces, it seems every experience has been crafted with honeymooners in mind. And the best part? It is all very budget friendly if you make smart plans.

How to Reach:

  • By Train: Take the Mewar Express or Chetak Express from Delhi for a scenic overnight journey.
  • By Air: Maharana Pratap Airport is about 23 km from the city center, with taxis or pre-arranged transfers to your hotel.

Budget Friendly Stays:

I spent a few nights in that area, the first at some reasonably priced, very charming hotels that didn’t break the bank and made our honeymoon feel luxurious without racking up pricey accommodations.

  • Udai Nivas is a peaceful, old haveli that feels very welcoming.
  • Hotel Aashiya Haveli has rooftop views of the lake and palace, perfect for sunset soirees.
  • Hotel Thamla Haveli is close to the city centre, near attractions, and has quaint interiors.

All of these choices offer a romantic atmosphere, clean rooms, and good service, ideal for budget-minded couples.

Cost:

  • Udaipur is surprisingly budget friendly for a romantic getaway. I spent around ₹5,500 per couple per day on a land package, which included hotel stay, sightseeing, and meals at affordable restaurants. Of course, costs vary depending on where you stay and the activities you choose.

3. Andaman: Shimmering Turquoise Waters

If your idea of a honeymoon is beaches and adventure, the Andaman Islands are one of the most stunning, budget friendly honeymoon destinations in India.

Why Andaman?

Let’s not consider the Andaman Islands just as a beach destination; it is actually an entire honeymoon in one place! Think waking up to the sound of turquoise waves lapping softly in the distance, enjoying a peaceful breakfast at sea’s edge, and ending up on an action-packed day of scuba diving, snorkeling, or kayaking. Down under, they don’t call it the dream time for nothing: The underwater world here is stunning enough to be surreal, with colorful coral fields and luscious marine life that give every dive a magical quality.

I was loving island life, spending my days hiking the islands and walking for miles on deserted beaches, watching the sunsets with my partner. It is a blend of fun and relaxation, both, and is one of the cheap honeymoon places in India for those whose idea of fun is long walks over white sand beaches, a little adventure once in a while, and to spend quality time with each other without unneeded expenses.

How to Reach:

Andaman wasn’t as hard to get to as I’d expected:

  • By Air: Take a flight to Port Blair, the key link between Andaman and mainland India. Flights from places including Chennai, Kolkata, and Delhi are regular and comfortable.
  • By Ship: You can also travel by sea if you’re looking for a more adventurous and scenic route; ferries operate from Kolkata or Chennai to the islands.

From there, local ferries and taxis make hopping between islands, including Havelock, Ross, and Neil, a breeze.

Budget Friendly Stays:

While on my trip, I stayed in a handful of budget-friendly but comfortable couples’ accommodations:

  • Andaman Residency: Clean rooms, friendly staff, and centrally located to markets.
  • Hotel Shreesh: Cozy rooms with fast access to the ferry terminals.
  • Hotel Diviyum Manor: A budget luxurious place with decent facilities and a picturesque atmosphere.

These hotels offer the perfect ambience, accompanied by privacy and comfort that are neither too harsh on your pocket nor a compromise with whatever luxury you planned for the budget friendly honeymoon in India.

Cost:

  • Andaman has proved to be pocket-friendly, despite the experiences it had stored for us. On average, a couple can spend approximately ₹6,000 per day for a land package that covers accommodation, meals, and standard sightseeing. You’ll be able to further customize it based on your chosen activities, such as scuba diving or private tours.

For a short but romantic honeymoon, Agra is one of the cheapest, budget friendly honeymoon spots in India.

Why Agra?

What makes Agra so special is the mix of history, culture, and intimacy. The Taj Mahal isn’t just a photo opportunity; it’s a place where you can feel the story of love in the air. How to Reach:

  • By air: Kheria Airport (flights from Delhi only)
  • By train/road: Direct trains as well as driving distance from Delhi on the Yamuna Expressway, which is a picturesque and hassle-free drive.

Ooty is perfect for couples who love green tea estates, serene hills, and cool weather. A private stroll in the botanical gardens or a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway feels magical.

Why Ooty?

The best part about Ooty is the blend of nature, tranquility, and adventure. You can revel in serene mornings, romantic walks down tea plantations, and chilly boat rides on Ooty Lake. It’s a small town that you can leisurely travel in, but it’s big enough to keep your honeymoon spontaneous.

How to Reach:
